Haymes Paint
Haymes Paint commissioned Sandbox to create a unique Branded Retail Environment for their recently constructed site in Ballarat.
This project presented Sandbox with the chance to craft a space centered around the customer and community, serving as a showcase for Haymes' product range and a flagship location within their network. Collaborating closely with the Haymes team, we delved into defining how best to encapsulate the brand's essence within the retail concept.
Our visual design process facilitated alignment and rapid creativity, crucial given the project's demanding time constraints. Embracing the distinctive qualities of the environment—its all-glass structure, triangular shape, circular atrium, and lofty ceilings—became an integral part of our design approach.

SHOWROOM
Ballarat Flagship
We had to deconstruct the current approach to retailing the Haymes Paint product and re-imagine the range in a showroom space. We believed it was critical to get the layering right from low to high on key sightlines and the proportions of the joinery and displays had to work within the volume of the space.
We really encouraged the Haymes team to consider the retail showroom, an activity and events destination to engage with local businesses and the community. The custom designed and built displays had to be flexible and the circulation needed to be open and functional. We've created many different types of zones for inspiration, consultation and interaction.
With Haymes Paint being proudly Australian, we've also tried to bring in some earthy warmth and texture with finish and materiality selection but still being empathetic to the modern interior shell. We felt it was really important to strike the balance with the colour and finishes, so the environment wasn't sterile or contrived. We also needed to showcase the Haymes Colour range and make it a focal point for customers to mix and match in the selection zone.
